We all have physical aspects of ourselves that we’d like to improve or change, and while we encourage self confidence and embracing the unique and wonderful being that makes you YOU, there is nothing wrong with wanting to boost that confidence through physical enhancement. Sometimes the issues we’d like to address stem from life events such as childbirth or just plain aging, and sometimes the reason is that we were simply born that way. Our lady parts, ahem down there, are no exception. Hear us out…
Recent years have brought a lot of attention to cosmetic genital surgery in the media, and frankly, the topic is no longer taboo. In fact, many women are embracing the idea of a more aesthetically pleasing vagina, while others are seeking these procedures, namely labiaplasty, to be more comfortable (and we mean in the physical sense) in swimsuits, leggings and fitness clothing and to eliminate irritation and chafing.
While the public as a whole was initially surprised to learn that cosmetic vaginal surgery was an actual thing, it seems at this point to be pretty well received. A recent study found that nearly 1 in 5 women are interested in cosmetic vaginal surgery and 19% of women surveyed disclosed they’ve discussed genital appearance with friends. Additionally, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reported that the number of labiaplasty procedures performed jumped 44% from 2012 to 2013, and it’s one of the only cosmetic procedures that boasts a near 100% satisfaction rate among those who have undergone the procedure.
This increase in demand and popularity has been so prevalent that it’s allowed us to focus and dedicate a large part of our practice to these procedures alone. As with many elective procedures, the reasons women seek labiaplasty vary and are unique to each individual. Our board certified gynecologic surgeon, Dr. Wesley Brady, has performed hundreds of labiaplasty procedures and can answer any questions you may have if this is something you’ve been considering. We are equipped with an all-female staff that truly understands the female body and the reasons women choose to undergo such a procedure, so discretion and privacy is integral to our practice. If you’d like to learn more about labiaplasty and whether you’re a candidate, we encourage you to come for a consultation. Ladies, it’s your body and your vagina - you’re entitled to want to be pleased with it!
