Ladies & Low Sex Drives: Why Awareness Is Essential
It’s no secret that, in general, men are more sexually driven. For women, our sexual desire is more complicated than the mere physical part. Most of us require a real connection, mentally, for starters. It’s because of this very gender difference that many women dismiss the fact that they’re just not interested in climbing in the sheets. The recent evolution of the importance of recognizing sexual function in women’s lives, along with medical studies and new information, suggests that a low sex drive is indeed worth a closer look though.
The first thing to acknowledge, ladies, is that you aren’t alone – especially if you’re pre- or postmenopausal. An online survey published in the Journal of Women’s Health revealed that 27% of premenopausal women and 34% of postmenopausal women expressed significant dissatisfaction with their current level of sexual desire. Though the reasons the participants cited vary to some degree (feeling less connected to their partners, negative body image, etc.), an overwhelming 90% of the women stated that they would like to have sex or would welcome the desire to have sex more often.
Perhaps most importantly, the majority of the survey respondents were unaware that medical help was available. That’s where the necessity of raising awareness becomes crucial. That’s right, gals, healthy sexual function is an important part of our well-being and happiness!
