What Are Stretch Marks?

Stretch marks, also known as striae, are long, narrow streaks or lines that develop on the skin when it’s been stretched too quickly. They usually occur due to pregnancy, sudden weight gain, growth spurts, or muscle growth.

Stretch marks are most common in the abdomen, thighs, breasts, hips, and upper arms. They may start off looking red or purple, but they tend to fade to a lighter, silvery color over time. While they’re not harmful or painful, many women just wish they were less noticeable.

How We Reduce Stretch Marks

We combine two treatments to help fade your stretchmarks: CO2 fractional laser and Morpheus8.

The CO2 fractional laser carefully removes old, damaged skin cells to reveal smoother skin underneath. The laser also encourages your body to make more collagen and elastin to keep your skin looking youthful.

Morpheus8 works a little deeper. It combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy to treat your stretch marks from below the skin’s surface. This promotes fresh tissue growth while breaking down scar tissue.

These two methods combined can soften the look of stretch marks, improving their texture and color. While stretch marks can’t be erased completely, most of our patients notice a real difference after a few treatments.

Your Stretch Mark Reduction Treatment

The CO2 fractional laser and Morpheus8 treatments are both non-invasive, so there’s no need for any extensive preparation. Each session typically lasts about 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the area we’re treating. Your appointment will take place in our office and will generally go as follows:

  • We’ll start with a quick consultation to assess your stretch marks.
  • Treatment often begins by using the CO2 fractional laser to gently resurface the top layer of your skin.
  • The Morpheus8, which uses microneedling combined with radiofrequency energy to treat the deeper layers of your skin is then used.
  • You’ll only experience mild discomfort that feels like a warm, tingling sensation.
  • While you may have mild redness or swelling, it should go away in a few hours.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

We recommend coming in for treatments once a month, with most patients seeing the best results after three to five sessions. Throughout the process, we’re here to answer any questions and make sure you’re comfortable at every visit.

Results and Expectations

You can look forward to smoother skin and far less noticeable stretch marks. Many of our patients see improvements in the texture and color of their skin, with the stretch marks becoming less prominent over time.

Newer stretch marks will respond best to the CO2 fractional laser and Morpheus8 treatments. Older stretch marks can still improve, but the changes may be more subtle.

You’ll likely need a series of treatments to get results you are satisfied with, keeping in mind that no treatment can make stretch marks disappear entirely. The goal is simply to help your skin look and feel healthier.

Remember, everyone’s skin is different, and results can vary from person to person. We’re here to help set realistic expectations and give honest guidance about what you can expect after your treatment.

"ATTENTION ALL MOTHERS: Having had 3 children and poor genetics, stretch marks were inevitable for me. I did significant research and never thought to consider treatment options beyond topical creams and surgery to help rid my physique of these well-deserved stripes until I stumbled across the Morpheus8 Body. I went in for my first treatment and while the treatment was mildly uncomfortable, all I could think about was if this would actually work. LADIES! I am so happy and amazed with my results so far! After only one treatment the texture of my stretch marks has completely changed, they have begun to fade and are no longer opaque when I am in the sun. I continue to see improvements every week and I cannot wait to see how they continue to improve after my treatment series is complete."

Frequently Asked Questions

What Aftercare Steps Do I Need to Follow?

After treatment, keep the area clean and well-moisturized. Stay out of the sun for at least two weeks, and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect your treated skin. If you experience redness or sensitivity, don’t use harsh skincare products or do anything that may irritate the area. Your provider will give you more details based on your treatment plan.

Are There Any Risks With This Treatment?

Besides temporary redness, swelling, or sensitivity at the treatment site, there aren’t many risks. Rarely, patients will have slight bruising or changes in skin pigmentation. Both CO2 fractional laser and Morpheus8 are safe and non-invasive, but your provider will discuss any potential risks during your consultation.

How Long Will My Results Last?

Most patients enjoy long-lasting improvement, especially with a healthy skincare routine and sun protection. Your results may last several months to years, depending on your skin type, age, and lifestyle. You can schedule more maintenance treatments down the road.

Can I Prevent Stretch Marks?

While it’s difficult to prevent stretch marks completely, keeping your skin hydrated can help improve its elasticity. Maintaining your weight and avoiding rapid changes in weight or muscle mass can also lower your risk of getting more stretch marks. Pregnant women can benefit from using creams or oils made to support their skin during pregnancy.

What Else Can I Do to Fade My Stretch Marks?

Besides laser and Morpheus8 treatments, you can try topical creams containing retinoids, hyaluronic acid, or peptides to help improve the appearance of stretch marks over time. Regular exfoliation and moisturizing can also support your skin's natural healing process.
