Cosmetic procedures, once considered either taboo or limited to the wealthy, are on the rise among the general public. In fact, the number of people considering a cosmetic procedure has doubled since 2013, according to stats provided by the The American Society for Dermatological Surgery (ASDS).
One reason for this shift is that more people are taking an interest in the physical aspects of themselves they would like to improve. Whether it’s hitting the gym, getting a facial or requesting a little help from the cosmetic surgeon, people recognize that it’s not a selfish thing to do, but rather a goal to reach to help boost their confidence. Another reason could be that having cosmetic procedures has become more mainstream. For example, Millennials have grown up around cosmetic surgery and an overall heightened awareness of self and well-being. Having a cosmetic treatment or procedure is perfectly acceptable, and in many people’s opinions, something they expect to do in their lifetime if they haven’t done so already. There is no more shame in this game!
The cosmetic procedures people are considering (and subsequently pursuing) have broadened as well. What used to be a discussion about breast implants, breast reduction, tummy tucks, or liposuction now encompasses a much bigger range of treatments and procedures. Specific to what we do at the Women’s Wellness Institute of Dallas, the conversations about cosmetic procedures most commonly include labiaplasty and vaginal rejuvenation.
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure designed to sculpt the external vaginal structures by reducing and/or reshaping long or uneven labia. Women who have long or uneven labia often experience embarrassment, discomfort or intimacy issues, and labiaplasty is the one procedure that can alleviate that. Our patients that undergo this procedure express a very high satisfaction rate and report increased confidence and comfort that often leads to improved personal/intimate relationships with their partners.
Dr. Wesley Brady has years of experience performing labiaplasty and vaginal rejuvenation procedures and specializes in cosmetic gynecology. Our all-female staff and accredited facility provide a safe, confidential environment for our patients to openly express their goals and needs.
